After Republican candidate Donald Trump defeated Democrat Kamala Harris handily in the 2024 presidential election, JD Vance tweeted an X post. In addition to expressing gratitude to the president-elect, he left his wife, Usha Chilukuri, a heartfelt message. She will be the first person of Indian descent to hold the office as the next second lady of the United States.
“Thank you” was how the vice president-elect began his post. “To President Donald J. Trump, for giving me such an opportunity to serve our country at this level,” he wrote in reference to Trump. “I will never stop fighting for ALL of you,” he said, thanking the American people for “their trust.”
He praised his wife and expressed gratitude for her help. Vance wrote, “To my lovely wife for enabling me to do this.”
She is an American lawyer of Andhra Pradesh ancestry. She was raised in a San Diego suburb and is the daughter of Indian immigrants. She has a master’s degree in philosophy from the University of Cambridge in addition to a bachelor’s degree in history from Yale University.
She married JD Vance in 2014 after meeting him at Yale Law School. Hindu customs were included into their wedding ceremony. The pair has three kids. She often appears with her husband during his campaigns and has been a steadfast supporter of him throughout his political career.
After his victory was predicted by a number of American media outlets, the president-elect made a speech in which he praised the vice president-elect and the soon-to-be second lady.
“I’d want to start by congratulating JD Vance, who is the vice president-elect. And Usha Vance, his amazing and stunning wife,” Donald Trump said. At the Palm Beach County Convention Center, he spoke to a sea of admirers.
