The 50-player shortlist for the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) Team of the Decade was announced on Thursday, and Harmnapreet Kaur is the only Indian player on it.
This season, the Big Bash will choose an official Team of the Decade to honor the best players from the WBBL’s ten-year existence.
To date, the right-handed Indian hitter has participated in 62 WBBL games for the Melbourne Renegades and Sydney Thunder. She scored seven half-centuries and 1440 runs at an average of 37.89.
Players on the list have participated in at least 60 WBBL games before the current season. A team of specialists has been established by the Big Bash to handle the challenging job of reducing the number of openings to just 12.
Mel Jones, Lisa Sthalekar, Matthew Mott, Quentin Hull, Laura Jolly, and Alistair Dobson are on the panel, which is chaired by Clea Smith, director of Cricket Australia.
Additionally, fans will have the opportunity to choose their Team of the Decade, with panel recommendations receiving the same weight as public voting.
The Big Bash App will be used for public voting from November 11 to 24. The panel will then finalize the 12-player squad, which will be revealed during the WBBL 10 Final on December 1, by combining their own choices with the public’s votes.
According to league regulations, no more than three foreign players may be included in the final eleven.
