Indian shuttler Kiran George advanced to the men’s singles semifinal of the Korea Masters with a decisive victory against Japan’s Takuma Obyashi, continuing his winning streak.
In only 39 minutes, the Indian defeated his opponent in straight games in the quarterfinals on Friday, 21-14, 21-16. George defeated Obyashi once again to maintain his undefeated record in their fourth career meeting.
In the opening game, the 24-year-old Indian gained an early 5-1 lead and increased it to seven points throughout the half. George maintained his lead to win the match 21-14.
In order to bash his opponent more forcefully in the second game, World No. 44 didn’t look back and came charging in. The Japanese made an early comeback, but George grabbed the 11-8 lead at the half. Nevertheless, the Indian maintained his advantage throughout the game and overcame the intense resiliency to win 21-16.
In the semifinal match on Saturday, George, the only Indian participating in the BWF Super 300 badminton event, will now take on Thailand’s top seed, Kunlavut Vitidsarn.
Earlier, Kiran George advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Chinese Taipei’s third seed, Chi Yu Jen. On Thursday, he defeated Jen 21-17, 19-21, 21-17 to advance to the top eight.
