The Uttar Pradesh State Women Commission has suggested that males refrain from cutting women’s hair or tailoring their clothing in order to shield them from “bad touch” and thwart men’s malicious purpose.
Following a meeting on October 28, a radical set of recommendations was made, including prohibiting males from taking women’s measurements and putting in CCTV cameras.
Himani Agarwal, a member of the women’s body, told PTI on Friday that a request was put out at the October 28 meeting of the women’s commission to have CCTVs placed in certain places and for only female tailors to measure women’s stitched clothing.
According to her, Babita Chauhan, the head of the state women’s commission, made the proposition, and the members in attendance endorsed it.
“We have also stated that only female barbers should serve female clients in salons,” Agarwal stated.
“We believe that women are harassed because of men in this kind of profession,” Agarwal said. Men attempt to engage in inappropriate physical contact.
She said that “not all of the men have bad intentions,” but that “some of the men’s intentions are also not good.” According to Agarwal, this is only a recommendation at this time, and the women’s commission would later ask the state government to enact legislation in this area.
