A child has died after being struck by a falling tree branch in Surrey.

The incident occurred at around 4pm in Grove Place near Carshalton Road, Banstead.

Police officers, London Ambulance Service crews and London Fire Brigade attended, but unfortunately, the child died of their injuries.

The Metropolitan Police said they were working to ensure that all members of the child's family were informed.

A police spokesperson said: "The incident is not believed to be suspicious, however, enquiries continue to establish the circumstances."
