Bengaluru: A woman died allegedly after being run over by a tanker near Ullal Press Club on the Thokkottu-Mangaluru University road in Mangaluru, Karnataka. The woman, who was riding pillion on a scooter, fell on the ground in an attempt to avoid a pothole on the road, said the police on Saturday. After the incident, locals gathered in the area to stage a protest against the civic authorities for ignoring their demands of fixing bad infrastructure in the city, claiming lives.The police have identified the deceased as Rehmat who was working at a private hospital in Deralakatte. She was riding with her husband, Rashid, towards Thokkottu on a scooter. Rashid reportedly lost control over the scooter while trying to avoid a pothole, and the duo fell on the ground. It is when a coming from behind rammed into the woman. She died on the spot.
Following which, the angry mob gathered, and held a protest to Thokkottu-Mangaluru University road, leading to huge traffic pile-up. The road is a part of the state highway-35, and is frequently used by commuters.The poor condition of road had been taking lives of commuters, and causing damage to vehicles.
