Galatasaray’s veteran goalkeeper Fernando Muslera voiced his strong disapproval of Fenerbahce head coach Jose Mourinho’s recent criticism of Turkish football following Galatasaray’s 3-2 victory over Samsunspor in the Turkish Super Lig.
Muslera, who has spent over a decade in Turkish football, expressed his disappointment with what he described as personal attacks against the league and its referees, as well as Mourinho’s remarks.
“No one is saying anything, but I think someone should say something to him. We need to pay more attention to those who are advancing Turkish football,” he added.
Muslera, in his comments, emphasized the importance of supporting and improving Turkish football rather than undermining it, marking the first time in his 14 years in Türkiye that he felt compelled to publicly speak out.
Mourinho’s comments came after Fenerbahce’s 3-2 victory over Trabzonspor in the 11th week of the Super League, where he criticized the officiating, particularly VAR official Atilla Karaoglan, whom he accused of unfairly impacting the game.
Mourinho also expressed frustration with Fenerbahce’s management for not providing him full transparency before he accepted the job, claiming he was only told “half the story.”
“I am angry with those who brought me here. They told me only half of the story. If I had known the full extent, I would not have come to Fenerbahce,” Mourinho added.
In a separate interview, Mourinho expanded on his views, stating, “There are things that need to change in the Turkish league. Turkey is much bigger than the Turkish league. It’s not just soccer, it’s the Turkish league. The history of the Turkish national team, but also the players who play for the national team,” he added.
