Senior Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit said Wednesday that his party will win both the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat and the Jharkhand Assembly polls as the first round of the elections is getting started.
In an interview with IANS, Sandeep Dikshit said, “I anticipate a huge turnout for today’s voting. I’m hoping for a calm election process. Additionally, we hope that the electronic voting machines (EVMs) will be free of anomalies. I believe that no political party should be represented by the EVMs.
“You see, I am certain that the Congress will prevail in the Wayanad case. With a majority of votes, Priyanka Gandhi will prevail. However, the Indian Bloc will regain control in the Jharkhand Assembly elections. This time, too, Hemant Soren will establish the government,” he said.
43 of the state’s 81 seats, spread over 15 districts, will be up for election on Wednesday in the first round of the Jharkhand Assembly elections.
The governing JMM in Jharkhand has put up 23 candidates, while the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress, two of its partners, have put up five and seventeen candidates, respectively.
The Janata Dal-United (JDU) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) have nominated two and seven candidates, respectively, while the opposition BJP has put out thirty-six. On November 20, the second round of voting will take place, and on November 23, the results will be tallied.
Following the first three hours of voting on Wednesday, the Wayanad Lok Sabha and the Chelakkara Assembly seats in Kerala had brisk participation, with 20.54 and 19.08 percent of voters, respectively.
With the exception of reported EVM malfunctions in a few Wayanad and Chelakkara booths, the election process, which was conducted under strict security measures, was mostly incident-free.
According to data given by the Election Commission (EC), the voter participation in the Wayanad LS seat was 13.7% at 9.30 AM, barely increased to 13.91% at 10 AM, and then soared to 20.54 at 10.30 AM.
Due to the by-elections, Wayanad LS and Chelakkara Assembly seats are on vacation.
