There are beauty pageants who turn actresses and then rule the industry with their stints. Thats what this diva has done who was born in Ambala district. She completed her schooling and college in Mumbai and took part in Miss India 1984 where she won the title. She also bagged the award for the Best Costume at the Miss Universe contest in the same year.
The actress we are talking about started her acting career in 1986 with Sunny Deol Sridevi Amrish Puri and Tom Halter. She was paired opposite Karan Kapoor (Shashi Kapoors son). But her breakthrough role was in a tragic romantic film in 1988.
In the same year when Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak was being made this actress got an offer from BR Chopra in Mahabharata to play Draupadi which was later given to Rupa Ganguly as she refused to take the role.
We are talking about none other than Juhi Chawla. In fact Gufi Paintal who played the role of Shakuni Mama in the show was also the casting director at the time. He had approached the actress for the role and even conducted a screen test. BR Chopra was very impressed with her and liked her a lot for the role of Draupadi. However at the last moment the actress declined to work in the show.
Juhi Chawla rejected a role in BR Chopras Mahabharata
At that time Juhi Chawla was receiving numerous film offers. Shortly after her screen test for Mahabharata she was offered the film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. Faced with two major opportunities she had to choose one and ultimately this film led her to turn down the role. As a result the role went to Rupa Ganguly.
Released in 1988 Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak played a significant role in launching Juhi’s career and establishing her in the film industry.
