Social media users came down hard on a Mumbai lawyer for sharing a screenshot of her junior’s WhatsApp message informing her of a late clock-in. Advocate Ayushi Doshi is under fire after she complained about an overtiming employee’s decision to compensate for his inefficiency at work by coming in late.According to her chat, the junior announced that he’d be coming to work at 11:30 am the next day, since he left an hour-and-a-half later than the standard clock-out time the evening before.“I can’t believe my junior sent me this,” Advocate Doshi said in an X posting. “Today’s kids are something else. He stayed late, so now he’s going to show up late to the office to’ make up’ for it. What a move! I am speechless mahn.”The tweet backfired, with people online pointing out how she seemingly failed to empathise with the young lawyer, who they said simply wanted to be productive.
“Do you not want people to go home, eat, and sleep enough so that they're well-rested for the next working day???? what the [redacted] is wrong with treating a human being like they are one??,” asked a commenter.A second argued, “Maybe he's trying to make sure he's as productive as possible without burning out. Younger employees sometimes bring a refreshing perspective on how to maintain efficiency without compromising their well-being!”Another said, “I see, staying longer is an expectation but coming late is not. If you really want to be fair, just ask him to come whenever but finish each day’s work no matter what.”In the face of somewhat-overwhelming criticism, as the post racked up over four million views, Advocate Doshi doubled down on her position.“To everyone commenting, let me clarify the situation. He was given a 3 deadline to complete a task that usually requires at least one full day of work. His working hours were from 10 AM to 7 PM, but if he wasn't able to finish within that time frame, he had to put in an barely 1.5 hours to complete the task. The issue is that he’s losing valuable time by being on his phone instead of staying focused on the work. When there’s a deadline to meet, sometimes a bit of extra time is necessary to get everything done!,” a follow-up tweet read.
