In a move to simplify processes for vehicle owners, the Transport Department has introduced the Vahan-4 software, which will allow individuals to create duplicate Registration Certificates (RC) and Driving Licenses (DL) from home. This development will eliminate the need to visit Regional Transport Offices (RTO) for several services, as the RTO offices are now connected directly to the Central Transport Ministry's system. After successful trials, the system has been implemented in Lucknow and Kanpur and is set to expand to other districts, including Varanasi.
Key Features of the New System
With the Vahan-4 software, individuals can manage tasks such as obtaining a duplicate RC or DL, applying for vehicle No Objection Certificates (NOC), and transferring ownership—all online. Vehicle owners can simply enter the last five digits of their vehicle's chassis number in the software to access all relevant information.
The government has allocated approximately six crore rupees for this initiative to enhance digital access for vehicle-related documentation, making the process more convenient and reducing foot traffic at RTOs.
Statement from the Transport Department
According to Sarvesh Chaturvedi, ARTO Administration, the Vahan-4 software will streamline processes and bring more facilities online. This digital upgrade aims to save time and simplify the documentation process for vehicle owners.
