Vikrant Massey's The Sabarmati Report is in theaters now. The new release in cinemas near you is based on one of India's most controversial and tragic incidents, that is, the 2002 Godhra train burning. Makers behind the Hindi-language film have attempted to stay true to the real incident but added few elements for cinematic flair. On the left, it is the real-life picture clicked in 2002 when ministers of the BJP including then chief minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi visited the actual site. The actual Godhra train burning took place in coach S-6 of the Sabarmati Express in February 2002. The real images of the coach after the fire reveal a charred interior and tragic aftermath.

In the now-released movie, The Sabarmati Report, the coaches of the burning train have been replicated.

In the real picture, one can see the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee taking an overview of the situation with his team around. In the reel picture on the right side, one can see two leads of the movie trying to gather some proof around what exactly happened on the train that led to the tragic incident.

The real picture on the left shows the actual fire outbreak, whose exact cause has been debated with many different investigations over these years. Real pictures from the site show the smoke and flames overtaking the train rapidly. In the reel picture from The Sabarmati Report, the recreated scenes also focus on the mystery surrounding the fire’s cause, showing dramatic angles and lighting that depict a rapid, uncontrollable blaze.
