I have realised that I don't need to be the biggest star to be happy: Parvati Nair
Parvati Nair , who started her career in 2012, says she has seen her fair share of the good, the bad and the ugly of the film industries down South. “I’ve learnt that as an actor, things don’t always go your way. Even if you’re talented, luck plays a big role. This can make the industry seem unfair. Personally, I’ve found that being in the right place at the right time is crucial,” the actor, who was recently seen in the Vijay-starrer The GOAT, tells us. In a chat with us during her visit to the city, the actor discussed the challenges faced by actors , particularly newcomers, the importance of having a positive mindset when navigating the ups and downs of the film industry, and more...
‘I felt very comfortable working with some of the biggest South stars’
I have been lucky to have worked with some of South India’s biggest stars and I have felt very comfortable working with them. Ajith Kumar, the first big star I worked with, was incredibly easy to work with. Despite initial nervousness, the experience was fantastic. I’ve been lucky that everyone I’ve worked with has made me feel comfortable.
‘Nobody’s going to have a steady career graph; at some point, you will have a fall’
It’s natural to experience ups and downs in one’s career. However, many people give up too soon. I don’t get too discouraged because my family is my priority. As long as I have their love and support, and I believe in myself, I know I can always start over and achieve great things.
‘You can’t get caught up in the pursuit of stardom’
There’s constant pressure to maintain an active social media presence. If you don’t post for a few days, then your engagement drops. But my understanding with time is that you need to live and let live. I’ve realised that becoming the biggest star isn’t going to make me happy. You need to just keep yourself occupied. I believe an idle mind is a devil’s workshop.
‘In this industry, newcomers often face challenges they are not equipped to handle’
Most actors, especially at the start of their careers, have faced certain challenged. Since they’re new, they wouldn’t know how to handle it. A committee to guide and help them would be useful in such situations. A committee can also probably help identify a true allegation against someone from a false one, like how Nivin Pauly was framed recently.
