How to Make Apple-Orange Cranberry Sauce

To make Apple-Orange Cranberry Sauce, start by washing the cranberries thoroughly. Peel the apple, cut it into small pieces and extract the peel and juice of the orange. In a medium saucepan, combine cranberries, chopped apples, orange juice and water. Add the sugar, cinnamon stick, ginger (if using) and a pinch of salt.

Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat to low after boiling, letting it simmer for about 15-20 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent burning and to ensure the fruit softens and breaks down into a thick, chunky sauce. While the sauce is simmering, you'll hear the cranberries pop as they release their natural juice.

When the cranberries have popped and the sauce has reached your desired thickness, remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the orange peel for tangy flavor. Taste the sauce and adjust sweetness if needed by adding more sugar or water to get the right balance.

Let the sauce cool before serving, as it will continue to thicken as it cools. You can serve the cranberry sauce warm, at room temperature, or chilled, as per your preference. This delicious sauce can be made in advance and kept in the refrigerator for up to three days, making it a convenient and delicious addition to your holiday dinner.
