Looking at 'healthy' bread on the supermarket shelves, have you ever wondered whether it is really beneficial for your health or not? Famous diet expert Professor Tim Spector has recently made a shocking revelation. He said that many breads available in supermarkets are sold with attractive tags like 'healthy' and 'high fiber', but in reality they may contain dangerous chemicals that can cause serious diseases like cancer.
According to a report in Daily Mail, Professor Tim Spector, a renowned nutrition scientist and founder of the Joy Diet app, said that chemicals like commercial yeast, flavorings and emulsifiers are used to enhance the taste and texture of supermarket bread. These substances can damage the intestinal lining inside the stomach. Gut expert Dr Alastair Scott said emulsifiers can weaken the gut barrier and cause bacterial infections, increasing the chance of intestinal cancer.
Healthy Choice: Fresh Sourdough and Rye Bread
Pro. Spector says freshly baked sourdough bread or rye and spelled bread is more beneficial. They contain high amount of fiber, which not only strengthens the digestive system but also protects from diseases like intestinal cancer. He said that if you are buying bread then keep in mind that it should have high fiber content and low sugar content. The best option is to have freshly made bread from the bakery.
Experts have also described sprouted bread as a healthy option. In this, grains are sprouted and baked, due to which the nutrients become more effective. Sprouted bread is high in fiber and vitamin B, which is beneficial for the digestive system.
