Academy Award-winning sound designer Resul Pookutty recently faced criticism for the loud sound design in Suriya ’s Tamil fantasy action film ' Kanguva ', directed by Siva. Shortly after the makers released the official trailer of ' Pushpa 2 : The Rule', Resul took to his Twitter handle to share a picture with music director Devi Sri Prasad , requesting theatres to properly calibrate their speakers for the Sukumar directorial.

Resul also shared pictures from the edit room of 'Pushpa 2: The Rule' on his X handle and wrote, “As the #Pushpa2TheRule trailer rolls out today, it’s been quite hectic on many levels. I want to tell all film lovers and fans that #Pushpa2 will be mixed at the standard Dolby Level 7 . I request all theatres to tune their amps and speakers well in time. @MythriOfficial @alluarjun @PushpaMovie.”

Resul’s advice to theatres comes shortly after he faced backlash for the overly loud sound design in 'Kanguva'. Even Jyotika, Suriya’s wife and the film’s co-producer, acknowledged on Instagram that the background score in the first 30 minutes of the movie was “too loud.”

Responding to the criticism, Resul shared a note on Instagram, “It is disheartening to see a review about sound in our popular films like this. Our craft and artistry are caught up in the loudness war… who is to blame?!” he wrote. “The sound guy?! Or the innumerable fixes that come at the last moment to satiate all insecurities. It’s high time our fraternity puts its foot down and says things loud and clear. No film will have repeat value if the audience walks out with a headache!”

'Kanguva' hit theatres on November 14, starring Suriya and Bobby Deol in lead roles. The first 30 minutes of the movie failed to impress fans and critics alike, although the rest of the film thrilled audiences with its craft.

'Pushpa 2: The Rule', starring Allu Arjun , Fahadh Faasil, and Rashmika Mandanna, is set to release in theatres on December 5.
