The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has chosen the Pattapur police station in Ganjam district as one of the top three police stations in the nation for 2024. The inspector-in-charge of the police station will get the trophy from Union Home Minister Amit Shah at the Directors-General of Police conference, which is set to take place in Bhubaneswar from November 29 to December 1.
Regarding the choice of Pattapur as the nation’s top police station, Odisha Director General of Police Y B Khurania received a letter from Samir S. IIme, Joint Director and Conference Secretary, Intelligence Bureau of the MHA.
Every year, the MHA ranks police stations nationwide based on more than 150 criteria, including crime rate, case investigation and resolution, infrastructure, and public service delivery. The opinions of the public on the police station also account for around 20% of the total score.
Improving the standard of policing and making police stations more hospitable were the primary goals of the ranking. “We are thrilled that our police station is ranked among the top three in the nation. The staff’s cooperation may have made it feasible,” Ganjam SP Suvendu Kumar Patra said.
According to Sanjay Kumar Mohapatra, Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Aska, an MHA team visited the 113-year-old Pattapur police station on September 28 to evaluate its infrastructural amenities. According to authorities, the team also solicited public input about the station’s operations and community policing.
The police station has good infrastructure, including a women’s and children’s desk, a child-friendly corner, restrooms, fire safety measures, and an open gym for the public, in addition to its performance in crime detection, disposal, enforcement, prevention efforts, and the implementation of the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and System (CCTNS).
