The January transfer window is drawing into view, and it will be interesting to see .
has got the Reds into a great position to challenge for the title, with the Reds currently sitting five points clear at the top of the table. The Liverpool boss and sporting director could therefore see fit to try and strengthen things in the New Year with some new additions.
The focus though is likely to be on keeping hold of players, with the futures of , and still up in the air. All three will be able to negotiate pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs in January unless they sign new deals at Anfield before then.
Here is the verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today, including the 'new Xabi Alonso', while Orkun Kokcu has just made a big claim about Slot.
Javi Guerra (Valencia)Liverpool is among a host of clubs monitoring Valencia midfielder Javi Guerra, according to . Arsenal, Tottenham and West Ham are also said to be keeping tabs on the 21-year-old, while Barcelona and Real Madrid have also been linked in the last 12 months.
Guerra has been compared to former Reds star , which would no doubt pique the interest of Liverpool fans. claimed the midfielder has a $105m (£84m/€100m) release clause in his contract back in September, although it is suggested that Valencia may be willing to sell at $32m (£25m/€30m).
Liverpool.com says: A new Xabi Alonso does sound enticing, and that is the sort of midfielder Liverpool could perhaps do with if they are to go back into the market soon. If Guerra is as good as he’s being made out to be, then $32m could well prove to be an absolute bargain.
We’ll have to wait and see what exactly Valencia’s stance is, although given where they are in La Liga at the moment, they may well have to take whatever they can get.
Orkun Kokcu (Benfica)Benfica midfielder Orkun Kokcu has fueled speculation linking him with a move to Liverpool after labeling Arne Slot as the 'best coach in the world'.
The Turkish international starred for Feyenoord under Slot before making the move to Portugal last year. Since Slot's arrival at Anfield though, Kokcu has been linked with a reunion with his former boss, with recently claiming the Reds are interested in signing him.
Judging by Kokcu's interview with Portuguese outlet , it's a reunion that he would welcome. "He made me the player I am today. He is the best coach in the world," Kokcu said.
Liverpool.com says: You don't get higher praise than that, and if the opportunity is there to work with the world's best coach, surely you would take it? We'll have to see whether Liverpool does genuinely have an interest in Kokcu, but it sounds like he would be up for linking back up with Slot.
