Indian badminton doubles champions Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy have returned to competition after Satwiksairaj’s recovery from a shoulder ailment. Due to Satwiksairaj’s injury, the couple was unable to participate in many events; their most recent competitive match was at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
Starting on November 19, the top doubles team will compete in the China Masters Super 750 badminton competition in Shenzhen, China.
Given that they do not have the services of doubles specialist coach Mathias Boe, the pair, who missed the Arctic Open, Denmark Open, and China Open among other tournaments, would want to get back into the swing of things as soon as possible.
In the opening round of their campaign, Satwiksairaj and Chirag, the runners-up from the previous editions, will take against Yang Po-Hsuan and Lee Jhe-Huei of Chinese Taipei.
The Indians who will compete include the men’s doubles team, PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen, Aakarshi Kashyap, Malvika Bansod, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, and Sumeeth Reddy and Sikki Reddy.
Sindhu and Lakshya are having trouble finding their form, and Lakshya had to withdraw early from the Kumamoto Masters Japan, the Denmark Open, and the Arctic Open Super 500.
In the first round, the 23-year-old shuttler will take against seventh-seeded Malaysian Lee Zii Jia.
Meanwhile, Sindhu will take against Supanida Katethong of Thailand in her first-round encounter. With a 5–4 head-to-head record, Sindhu has a strong record versus Katethong. But Sindhu’s opponent will be Michelle Li of Canada, whom she lost to in the first round in Finland and then again in the round of 16 in Japan.
In the opening round, Malvika Bansod will face Line Hojmark Kjaersfeldt, while Aakarshi Kashyap will face Tomoka Miyazaki of Japan.
Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning of China will open for Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, who were defeated in the first round of the Kumamoto Masters Japan. The tournament’s second-seeded seeds are Sheng Shu and Ning.
