Kanguva's trailer created a huge buzz, especially in the southern belt. What was impressive was that the Kanguva trailer created a buzz in the Hindi belt too, since the makers announced Bobby Deol as a Villain and a special cameo also made the headline.
Kanguva disaster at box office
Looking at reaction after trailer release, the Kanguva was predicted to become a massive success not just in Southern states but at a pan-India level. It could have been the right opportunity to put Kollywood back on track by creating a record collection at the box office. However, right from its opening day, Kanguva has received mixed reactions. Starring Suriya and Bobby Deol in lead roles, Kanguva didn't see any positive reviews. The film on the other hand had a disastrous run at the box office. The major reason why Kanguva bombed was because of weak screenplay which didn't impress the audience, leading to poor word-of-mouth. As a result, Kanguva underperformed, severely affecting the box office collection.
Suriya's film premiered on Thursday and made a decent net opening of Rs 24 crore, with the Hindi version contributing Rs 3.5 crore. While this opening was significant, it was underwhelming considering the pre-release buzz and expectations that the film could collect Rs 50 crore on its first day.
By the second day, the word-of-mouth turned negative, and the film's collections saw a huge dip. On Friday and Saturday, Kanguva only managed Rs 9.5 crore, and even Sunday didn't bring much relief with a modest jump. According to Sacnilk's estimates, on its fourth day, the film collected around Rs 10.5 crore.
Kanguva performance in Hindi belt
There were high hopes for Kanguva's performance in Hindi as well, especially with Bobby Deol a popular name in the North. However, from the very first show, the film failed to live up to expectations. After earning Rs 3.5 crore on its opening day, the Hindi collection dipped to less than Rs 5 crore over the next two days (Friday and Saturday). On Sunday, the Hindi version's collection is estimated to be around Rs 3 crore.
In its first four days, Kanguva's Hindi box office collection barely touched Rs 10-11 crore, despite receiving a large screen count in North India- estimated to be between 2,500 and 3,000 screens.
Kanguva's disastrous crash at the box office
While the initial buzz created hype for Kanguva, in total the film's box office collections for the first four days have not even crossed the Rs 60 crore mark. While its reported budget exceeds Rs 350 crore. This indicates that Kanguva is headed toward becoming a massive flop, especially given the high expectations surrounding its release.
Kanguva's disappointing performance at the box office suggests that despite Suriya's star power and Bobby Deol's presence, the film has failed to meet commercial success. Its weak script and negative reviews seem to have played a significant role in turning it into a major disappointment.
