PAN Aadhaar linking update: Citizens who have not linked their Aadhaar card and PAN card are being fined even after the government has repeatedly extended the deadline. The deadline for linking PAN with Aadhaar is over. The last date for linking PAN with Aadhaar was 30 June 2023. Similarly, the government is now imposing penalties for linking PAN with Aadhaar. From July 1, 2023, the central government is levying a penalty of Rs 1,000 for linking inactive PAN with Aadhaar. The Economic Times, citing media reports has written that if the PAN card is not linked to the Aadhaar card by this deadline, the government may deactivate it. So you need to link both cards now. It is also reported that PAN cards which are not linked to Aadhaar cards have been deactivated from July 1, 2023. By January 29, 2024, 11.48 crore PANs will not be linked to Aadhaar cards, barring certain categories, Minister of State Pankaj Chaudhary said.

If you want to check whether your PAN and Aadhaar are linked, go to the e-filing portal and click on Aadhaar Status in the Quick Links section. How to pay a fine if Aadhaar and PAN are not linked?
You can pay the penalty by visiting the home page of the e-filing portal. Click on the Aadhaar link in the Quick Links section. Once there, log in and click on the Aadhaar link in the profile section. Enter your PAN and Aadhaar number when a new window opens. Click on Payment through e-Pay Tax. After that, you will get OTP.
Meanwhile, after entering the OTP, you will be redirected to the tax page. Then click on Proceed on Income Tax. You can then make the payment. You can pay through UPI or on the bank's website. After paying the fee you can link your PAN card to your Aadhaar on the e-filing portal.
