November 19, Rome Three persons were murdered and several more were wounded or reported missing in a devastating explosion at a fireworks business close to Naples, in southern Italy.
According to the Xinhua news agency, rescue crews were searching through the debris late into the night in an effort to find survivors or more fatalities.
According to media accounts, the victims were an Albanian laborer and twin brothers from Italy. It was unclear how many people were hurt or went missing.
The plant is located outside of Ercolano, close to the historic Roman city of Herculaneum, which was infamously destroyed by Mount Vesuvius’ explosion around 2,000 years ago, much like Pompeii.
In recent years, many explosions at fireworks factories have occurred in Italy.
The bloodiest event was in 2019, again in Sicily, when five people were murdered, including the owner’s wife. In July, an explosion in Sicily seriously wounded the proprietor of a fireworks business.
