India women’s cricket team vs. Australia women’s cricket team: Following a run of subpar performances over the previous 12 months, top-order batsman Shafali Verma was dismissed on Tuesday from India’s 16-man women’s squad for the three-match ODI series in Australia in December.
The 20-year-old right-handed batter’s recent ODI form has been dismal, and it seems that the BCCI selectors have lost patience with him once again. In only six games this year, Shafali has amassed 108 runs, with 33 being the highest total.
She made a return against South Africa in Bengaluru in June of this year after being dismissed from the squad in December of last year due to her poor performance during the home ODI series against Australia.
The youthful player, who was considered the next great thing in Indian women’s cricket when she joined the squad in 2021, hasn’t hit an ODI half-century since defeating Sri Lanka in Pallekele in July 2022 with an undefeated 71.
49 against the same opponent in the same series was her next-highest score.
Four further players were excluded from the team that participated in India’s 2-1 victory over New Zealand in their home series in Ahmedabad last month: Sayali Satghare, Dayalan Hemalatha, Shreyanka Patil, and Uma Chetry.
Five players—Harleen Deol, Richa Ghosh, Minnu Mani, Titas Sadhu, and Priya Punia—were selected for the Australia series despite not playing against New Zealand.
The Allan Border Field in Brisbane will host the first two One-Day Internationals (ODIs) on December 5 and 8. The series’ final match, which is part of the ICC Women’s Championship, will take place at the WACA Ground in Perth on December 11.
The following players are part of India’s three-match ODI series: Tejal Hasabnis, Deepti Sharma, Minnu Mani, Priya Mishra, Radha Yadav, Titas Sadhu, Arundhati Reddy, Renuka Singh Thakur, Saima Thakor, Harmanpreet Kaur (C), Smriti Mandhana (VC), Priya Punia, Jemimah Rodrigues, Harleen Deol, Yastika Bhatia (WK), Richa Ghosh (WK), and Saima Thakor
