Champions Trophy 2025: The ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which will take place in Pakistan in only 100 days, is just becoming more unclear due to the lack of clarity around the dates and schedule. However, after speaking with the PCB on India’s concerns, IANS predicts that the ICC will make the schedule public by the end of this week.
Due to government constraints, India, one of the teams that will compete in the next event, will not be traveling to Pakistan for this competition. Since the BCCI had previously notified the BCCI of its decision, the PCB is now left in the dark.
If this problem is not remedied, the PCB now intends to take the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The PCB is certain that they will organize the major tournament exclusively in Pakistan and won’t be making concessions as they did with the 2023 Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup.
Last year, the Rohit Sharma-led team played their matches in Sri Lanka after the PCB grudgingly agreed to host the Asia Cup using a hybrid format. Additionally, despite opposition from their government, the Babar Azam-led team played its matches in India during the 2023 ODI World Cup. These examples just highlight the logistical and political nuances that might come up again.
To get the fans psyched for this huge event, the ICC started the trophy tour for the 2025 Champions Trophy in the midst of all these concerns. The journey began in Islamabad, where the illusive trophy was shown at many famous sites, including the Pakistan mosque, Daman-e-Koh, and Faisal Mosque. Shoaib Akhter was present at this unveiling ceremony and carried the trophy throughout the city.
Despite the ICC’s efforts, a resolution to India’s travel problems is still pending.
