Sunil Gavaskar, a former cricket player for India, thinks the Delhi Capitals would pay a high price for Ishan Kishan in the IPL auction. Before the auction, the Capitals let go of Rishabh Pant, and Kishan may be a suitable replacement. The Mumbai Indians released Kishan, who was signed for INR 15.25 crore for the 2022 Indian Premier League. The IPL auction is scheduled to happen in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on November 24 and 25.
“I think Delhi would make a lot of effort to get Ishan Kishan. “We have seen that Ishan Kishan has the ability to change the complexion of the game in T20 cricket because of the way he bats,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports, suggesting that they could be willing to spend 15 to 20 crores for him.
Many were taken aback by the decision to exclude Rishabh Pant, who is among the most sought-after purchases at the auction. It was conjectured that the two sides were unable to agree on the retention fee, which Sunil Gavaskar also acknowledged.
“I believe that the Delhi Capitals would like to have Rishabh Pant rejoin their team. As is to be anticipated, the franchise and players sometimes discuss payments when a player must be kept. They have gone for more than the No. 1 retention fee deduction would be, as some of the players who have been kept by their teams. Therefore, it’s obvious that I believe there may have been some dispute. However, I think Delhi would like to have Rishabh Pant return,” Gavaskar had told Star Sports.
Pant, however, denied the allegations and said that financial issues had nothing to do with his choice to leave the Delhi Capitals.
The Delhi Capitals retained Abishek Porel (4 crore), Tristan Stubbs (10 crore), Kuldeep Yadav (13.5 crore), and Axar Patel (16.5 crore). The Capitals will bring a purse of 73 crore to the IPL auction.
