While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not made an official announcement, reports indicate that Mallika Sagar, who successfully managed the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) Auction, is likely to return as the auctioneer for the upcoming season. An official confirmation is awaited.
Mallika Sagar is a prominent figure in the art auction world and has hosted numerous prestigious art auctions. Based in Mumbai, she gained recognition for her success in conducting Women's Premier League (WPL) auction in 2023.
She studied Art History at Bryn Mawr College in Philadelphia, and at just 26, she began her career at the renowned auction house Christie's in 2001. Mallika's extensive experience in the auction industry made her a perfect choice for IPL, where she took over the reins in 2023.
Indian Premier League (IPL) has seen several auctioneers since its inception in 2008. Richard Madley was the first auctioneer and handled the process for the first ten years. In 2018, Hugh Edmeades took over the role and continued for five years. During IPL 2022 mega auction, Edmeades fainted unexpectedly, and Charu Sharma quickly stepped in to complete the auction. Edmeades returned for the 2023 auction, after which Mallika Sagar made her debut as the auctioneer.
