A case of gross negligence of a doctor has come to light in Muzaffarpur, Bihar. The doctor operated the appendix on a 12 year old girl who came to the Sadar Hospital here for treatment of stomach ache. After the operation, the doctor came to know that the girl did not have appendix at all. The family members of the victim have complained to the departmental officials accusing the doctor of negligence. They allege that after the operation the girl remained unconscious for one and a half hours. There was a dustbin kept on the bed on which he was made to lie. Officials have been ordered to investigate the matter.
The girl was complaining of stomach ache. His ultrasound was also done. The doctor diagnosed him with appendix and operated on him. When the disease did not subside, the doctor started saying sorry to the victim's family. The matter has now reached the top officials of the health department. Orders for investigation have also been given. There is anger among the family members about the negligence of the doctor. The limit reached when the doctor did not even come to see the girl after stitching her.
The victim is a resident of Kanti Manpura in the district. Her mother Sumitra told that when her daughter had stomach ache, she brought her to the Sadar Hospital of the district on October 28. The doctor saw him and got him an ultrasound done, saying that he had appendix. She got the baby's ultrasound done in Sadar Hospital. His blood test was also done. After seeing the report, the doctor asked him to operate. Sumitra told that on Tuesday the doctor operated on her daughter.
The victim's mother told that the doctor took about one and a half hour to operate her daughter. When the doctor was asked about the reason for taking so much time, he told that his daughter does not have appendix. The doctor started saying sorry to him. The family members got angry at this. He told that the careless doctor operated on his daughter and went away and did not even inquire about her condition. Family members told that their daughter was made to lie on the bed near the dustbin in the surgery ward. He complained about this to the Civil Surgeon. After that a written complaint was made to the hospital superintendent. He has ordered an investigation into the matter.
