Ranchi: The country is paying tribute to Deshratna Dr. Rajendra Prasad on his 140th birth anniversary. From being a Congress worker to becoming the President of the Constituent Assembly and becoming the President of the country, Rajendra Prasad always remained attached to Jharkhand and its tribals. He continued to raise the voice of the people of Jharkhand, which was in united Bihar at that time, on different platforms. By examining his old letters, it becomes clear how eager and trying he was to connect this backward area of the country with the mainstream.
Before independence, Congress leaders used to run institutions like Ranchi Abroginal Work and Gumla Seva Kendra for Ranchi and surrounding districts where self-employment work was carried out along with education. Dr. Rajendra Prasad was in constant touch with Congress workers, leaders and institutions in Gumla, Ranchi. They have been coming to this area since two decades before independence. Especially in Gumla Seva Kendra, Dr. Rajendra Prasad has played a big role. He not only kept donating for Gumla Seva Kendra but also kept asking for donations. Rajendra Babu once donated one thousand rupees to Harijan Seva Sangh for the service of tribals. In those times, the price of one thousand rupees was considered a lot.
Even after becoming the President, Rajendra Babu kept visiting the institutions of Jharkhand whenever he got a chance. He especially visited the Indian School of Mines and Fuel Research Institute. Rajendra Babu was also supposed to come to lay the foundation stone of Fuel Research Institute but he could not come due to ill health. Dr. Homi Bhabha laid the foundation stone. Later on 22 April 1952, he came to Sindri and gave a long speech. Not only this, Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was also with him at that time. It was a big opportunity for Dhanbad when both the President and the Prime Minister arrived together. Rajendra Babu also addressed the Indian Institute of Mines on 1 April 1955.
Rajendra Prasad also responded to his opponents and anger politely. One such case came when Central Bihar representative Ramnarayan Singh wrote a letter to Rajendra Prasad, accusing him. Ramnarayan Singh, while opposing the appointment of Shri Krishna Singh and Krishnavallabh Sahay as rulers, had written to Rajendra Babu that I will not tolerate that thieves become rulers.
