Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, a spiritual teacher, has praised the United Nations’ decision to designate December 21 as World Meditation Day, describing it as “significant” since it addresses one of the biggest issues facing mankind today: mental stability, balance, and wellness.
Sadhguru described the UN’s decision as a critical move at a time when experts are warning that a mental health epidemic is imminent in a video message released by the Isha Foundation.
“United Nations declaration of December 21st as meditation day” World Meditation Day is important because mental stability, balance, and wellness are among the biggest issues confronting mankind today. It is admirable that the UN has acknowledged meditation as a means of promoting emotional stability, mental health, and equilibrium. At a time when specialists are all anticipating that a mental health pandemic is imminent, this is a very important step, Sadhguru added.
His remarks follow the unanimous adoption of a resolution by the UN General Assembly on December 6 designating December 21 as “World Meditation Day.” India played a key role in the resolution’s unanimous approval.
According to the founder of the Isha Foundation, meditation is a method by which one learns to control their mind to do miracles. “The greatest miracle is the human mind,” he remarked. Regretfully, the majority of people see it as a machine that produces sorrow and is always working against them. People have not been equipped to control this amazing system, which is why this has occurred.
“Meditation is that process through which you learn to operate this mind so that it functions as a miracle,” Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev remarked in reference to meditation. We’re also introducing the Miracle of Mind app early next year, which will provide you access to a simple meditation technique that you can use anywhere to infuse your life with pleasure, calm, and elation. I hope and pray that the wonder of mind be experienced by every person on the earth. Everyone is more than capable of handling this.”
Given that December 21 is a winter solstice or the start of Uttarayana, a day that is very important for introspection in many cultures worldwide, he described it as “very apt” that it has been designated as World Meditation Day.
On the occasion of World Meditation Day, he expressed his congratulations to the United Nations, the Government of India, and the other countries that supported the resolution designating December 21 as a day for meditation.
