Well one such story is Girish Mathrubootham who sold 2.5 million shares of the company earning $39.6 million (Rs 336.41 crore) from this sale.
As per the firms SEC filings submitted on December 20 Girish Mathrubootham the co-founder and executive chairman of Nasdaq-listed SaaS firm Freshworks has sold nearly 2.5 million shares of the companys Class A common stock valued at approximately $39.6 million as per the MoneyControl report. The sales took place over multiple transactions this week with an average price range of $15.33 to $16.50 per share. These stock sales occur amidst notable recent developments at the Nasdaq-listed SaaS firm.

Earlier in February 2024 Freshworks’ board of directors canceled the CEO Performance Award of six million stock units granted to Mathrubootham in 2022 citing changes in performance targets due to challenging macroeconomic conditions added the report. Later Mathrubootham was granted a new annual long-term equity incentive award with a fair value of $19 million. During the same period Mathrubootham sold shares worth $9.6 million.
As per the official website of Freshworks Girish served as CEO from 2010 to 2024. Under his leadership Freshworks expanded its operations to 13 global locations to serve over 67000 customers worldwide. He is also a prominent venture capital investor and advisor to over 60 companies.
Girish is a founding member of SaaSBoomi Asia’s largest community of founders and product builders and a founding partner of Together Fund a founder-first VC. Additionally Girish founded FC Madras a football academy with aspirations to be India’s most progressive finishing school for meritorious football talent.
It is reported that Girish Mathrubootham failed in his 12th grade once and his relatives used to call him a rickshaw driver. Despite getting discouraged Girish took it as motivation. He began to work hard and landed his first job at HCL. Later he became a lead engineer at Zoho a company he dedicated 7 years to eventually rising to the position of Vice President.
It was in 2010 that Mathrubootham left Zoho and founded his company Freshworks. The company continued to thrive and when it was listed on Nasdaq 500 of its employees became instant millionaires many of them under 30.
