Joe Root made his return to the ODI team for the first time since the 2023 ODI World Cup while Ben Stokes was not considered for selection as England announced their squads for the Champions Trophy and the series against India. Jos Buttler will lead the Thre Lions in the all-important ICC event, scheduled to be played in February and March in Pakistan.Root stayed out of the ODI team after the 2023 WC. He hasn't played any List A game since then. Interestingly, Root participated in The Hundred and he has played the shortest format in past one year.Stokes was not considered for selection for the Champions Trophy due to the hamstring injury which he suffered during the third Test against England. Stokes, who retired from ODIs in 2022, played in the 2023 World Cup. He kept the door ajar to make his return to the ODI squad for the Champions Trophy but the injury meant he wasn't available.Jofra Archer has been named in ODI and T20I squads. His presence will be key to England's success in the ICC event. The India tour will be Brendon McCullum's first series as England's white-ball teams' head coach. McCullum, who has been coaching England's Test team since 2022, was appointed the all-format coach in September.England and India are scheduled to lock horns in 5 T20Is and 3 ODIs. The T20Is will take place on January 22, 25, 28, 31 and February 2 in Kolkata, Chennai, Rajkot, Pune and Mumbai, respectively.
