“It was a wise choice to establish Kisan Diwas (Farmer’s Day) in 2001 to honor a great man who devoted his life to the welfare of farmers and rural development, as well as the development of the nation,” Vice President Dhankhar told reporters. According to an advertisement the government put in the newspaper today, farmers are really India’s “annadata” (food supplier) and “Vidhata” (creator), and this is entirely accurate. Kisan Diwas will commemorate its 25th anniversary next year; therefore, we must plan year-round events to put farmers’ well-being first.”

Additionally, he said that India is now at a stage where “Viksit Bharat” is a reality rather than only a pipe dream.

“And in its pursuit, the roles of Krishna and Arjun can be compared to the thoughts of Chaudhary Charan Singh ji and the sweat of the farmers in rural areas,” VP Dhankhar said.

The Vice President also asked the Kisan Trust and the Government of India to make Kisan Diwas a huge celebration for farmers all throughout the country when it is observed next year.

“I would want to inform the Indian populace and farmers that Chaudhary Charan Singh’s 125th birthday is quickly coming and that we should begin making preparations for it right now. Numerous authors from all around the globe have recorded this great man’s ideas in their writings, and it is crucial to acknowledge and advance them,” he said.

“Farmers now have a role in society that goes beyond agriculture. It is the duty of the contemporary farmer’s son to give back to society by working in government services and industries. Both farmers and soldiers are the two pillars that put forth endless effort during difficult times,” VP Dhankhar said.

Chaudhary Charan Singh received the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor, posthumously earlier this year.

Chaudhary Charan Singh was born into a middle-class peasant family in Noorpur, Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district, in 1902. In 1929, he moved to Meerut and joined the Congress. He represented Chhaprauli in the UP Legislative Assembly in 1946, 1952, 1962, and 1967 after being elected to the seat for the first time in 1937. He served in a number of ministries, including Revenue, Medical and Public Health, Justice, Information, and others, before being appointed Parliamentary Secretary in Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant’s administration in 1946.

In the Janata Party, he played a crucial role. He was a prolific writer in addition to being an experienced politician. His dedication to social welfare and economic changes is reflected in his creative works, which include essays on land reform and agricultural policy.

He was well known for being the main force behind Uttar Pradesh’s land reforms. Important land reform laws that addressed land distribution and agricultural sustainability, like the Department Redemption Bill of 1939 and the Land Holding Act of 1960, were passed as a result of his work.
