The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced plans to issue checks for unclaimed stimulus payments, up to $1400. These are for about 1 million taxpayers who did not claim them while filing for the 2021 tax returns. The agency had initially said it is distributing about $2.4 billion - to Americans who missed one of the COVID stimulus payments or had received less than the full amount. But the IRS on Friday said it discovered many eligible taxpayers hadn’t done so."The IRS announced the special step after reviewing internal data showing many eligible taxpayers who filed a return but did not claim the credit," the agency said in a press release. The agency further added that those who have not received their stimulus checks or credit can expect 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit in late January. How do I receive my unclaimed stimulus checks?You don't have to do anything to receive these payments. They will automatically be sent out to taxpayers in December, or by late January. Eligible taxpayers will receive a separate letter notifying them of the payment. The amount will be deposited into the bank account of the person's 2023 tax return or sent to the address of record.
