In preparation for his eagerly awaited Test debut at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, 19-year-old Australian opener Sam Konstas is planning to take on deadly Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah in the Boxing Day Test.

Konstas, who took Nathan McSweeney’s position in the Australia team, said he had seen Bumrah bowl a lot and was planning to counter the top pacer from India.

Following his outstanding performance against India in the Prime Minister’s XI tour match, Konstas was added to the Australian team. Against Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, and Mohammed Siraj, an Indian pace assault, Konstas hammered a fantastic century throughout the game.

“I will not reveal my strategy for Bumrah, but I do have one. Three days before his eagerly awaited Test debut, Konstas told the media on Monday that he was trying to put pressure back on bowlers.

Nathan McSweeney, his predecessor in the opening spot, had stated the same thing about Bumrah, but he was eventually left out of the team after being dismissed four times out of five by the top bowler in three Test matches.

Notably, in the two warm-up matches when Konstas scored runs, Bumrah did not play a role in the Indian assault.

“All are very good bowlers… world-class, looking forward to experiencing that challenge and living that,” Konstas remarked in reference to the Indian bowling assault.

When asked how his Christmas Eve used to be a few years ago, Konstas smiled cheekily.

“My brother and I used to play backyard cricket and eat a ton of food, and they will be visiting us shortly for Christmas. Representing my nation is a dream come true, and it is incredible to have this chance at my age,” he said.
