Chennai: A massive protest was held at Anna University in Chennai after a student filed a sexual assault complaint in Kotturpuram police station. A second-year female student along with her boyfriend, a third-year student in the same college, were together when a perpetrator approached them. The suspect allegedly attacked the youth and sexually assaulted the girl inside the campus of Anna University in Guindy, Chennai late Monday night.As per the latest information, the accused has been arrested by the police.
The girl has filed a police complaint. Police have registered a case and an investigation is underway. Further details awaited
What Police Sources SaidThe incident took place on Monday (23.12.2024) late in the evening around 8 pm, police sources told Times Now. The police received a complaint on Tuesday yesterday regarding the assault. The girl and the boy were inside the campus when a person approached them. He had recorded a video of them together and blackmailed them. The boy was attacked by the perpetrator following which the boy fled the scene. Finding the girl alone, the suspect sexually assaulted her.Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai reacted to the incident and said, "Crimes against women are at an all-time high. Now this is not only shocking but for a moment we all felt paralysed. One of the safest places, Chennai, is the sprawling Anna University campus. ""A girl and boy were on a University campus when two unknown boys entered the campus and beat up the boy and sexually assaulted the girl with injuries. And now the CCTVs are not functioning. It shows the current state of law & order and administration in the Tamil Nadu. We pray that the police will be given freedom to operate. All MLAs, MPs are from DMK in Chennai, is this a city safeguarding the people?...I hope and pray Tamil Nadu govt acts," he added.
