Aakash Chopra, a former cricket player who is now a broadcaster, has pointed out Yashasvi Jaiswal’s main flaw ahead of the fourth Test match between India and Australia in Melbourne. Notably, the young Indian opener’s spectacular century in the first Test match in Perth gave the current series a huge start.
India won by a huge margin of 295 runs because of the southpaw’s outstanding 161 in the second innings. He only scored 32 runs in the next four innings, however, and hasn’t been able to duplicate his exploits since. In his analysis of Jaiswal’s performance so far in the series, Chopra emphasized his struggles against left-arm fast bowling, noting that Mitchell Starc had dismissed him three times out of five.
“Yashasvi Jaiswal is really struggling against left-arm pace, and this issue hasn’t just begun. It has been occurring on a regular basis. This is not a format-specific issue since it was also occurring in the IPL. On his YouTube channel, Chopra said, “It is not a Mitchell Starc issue.”
In Test cricket, Jaiswal has been removed six times by a left-arm fast bowler who averages only nine runs a game and has two ducks to his credit. Going forward, Chopra said that Mitchell Starc’s return to form has also helped to end Jaiswal’s mess.
It is Jaiswal’s responsibility to start India well in Melbourne.
Because Mitchell Starc is, for some odd reason, back to his best, his poor stats against left-arm speed are being taken advantage of. We thought his career had taken a minor turn for the worse, but he has now resumed bowling with the same cadence,” he said.
Jaiswal was anticipated by a number of cricket commentators to be the series’ top run scorer. Being the second-highest run scorer in Test matches in 2024, the youthful player entered the rubber with enormous hopes, but he hasn’t scored regularly. He has amassed 193 runs from six innings at an average of 38.60 in the series so far, with one century and one duck. Jaiswal’s ability to get India off to a strong start in Melbourne and protect the rest of the batting order from the new ball is so vital.
