The Modi government is redeveloping 1300 railway stations across the country. The modernisation of railway stations is being done under the ‘Amrit Bharat Station Scheme’ (ABSS). The initiative will get the passengers a better experience during their stay at these stations.
The aim of the scheme is to improve the facilities at railway stations undergoing refurbishment. The redevelopment program is being carried out in a phased manner.
According to a report published in ET Now the facilities which a passenger will access at railway stations with improved qualities are waiting areas toilet facilities lift and escalator installations as needed cleanliness offering free Wi-Fi setting up kiosks for local products through initiatives like One Station One Product.
The Railway is also keeping in mind that the stations which are being redeveloped will have a reflection of the city’s heritage architecture and local culture.
As per ICRA’s recent report the redevelopment of railway stations across the country will create business opportunities worth Rs 30000 crore which includes procurement of engineering and construction entities.
The report cited that a total of 1318 railway stations have been listed under the ‘Amrit Bharat Station Scheme’ for redevelopment.
