India is set to launch its first bullet train and preparation are underway to start the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor early next year. According to details the design of the bullet train which has been finalized by India and Japan has undergone major changes to make it suitable for Indian conditions.
Indias first bullet train will feature luxurious facilities for travelers such as air-conditioned seats dust-proof coaches and additional luggage capacity among others.
Over half of the construction work has been completed on MAHSR corridor while track-laying work has also begun Economic Times reported adding that tenders will soon be issued as the design of the bullet train has been finalized. A senior official said the design of the bullet will soon receive formal approval the report said.
As per the report the changes are being made in the bullet trains design to adapt it to Indian conditions and the locomotive will be able to run at temperatures above 50 degrees Celsius. Additionally the trains luggage capacity will also be enhanced keeping in mind the needs of Indian passengers.
Apart from this the coaches of the bullet train will be dust-proof while seating arrangement is also likely to be changed and the number of seats in each coach may be reduced to improve passenger comfort according to officials.
Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project
The Mumbai–Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Corridor (MAHSR) aka Mumbai–Ahmedabad HSR is an under-construction high-speed rail corridor which will connect Mumbai Maharashtra with Ahmedabad Gujarats largest city. The MAHSR will be Indias first high-speed rail line with a top speed of 320 km per hour (200 mph).
The high-speed rail line is being developed by National High Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRC) a wholly owned subsidiary of Indian Railways the Ministry of Railways and the Government of India uses Shinkansen technology from Japan including rolling stock signalling and design standards – with technology transfer to support the Make in India programme officials said.
Once completed the bullet train will expected to usher in a new era of fast and efficient travel in the country. The MAHSR will connect 12 stations including major cities and towns in Maharashtra and Gujarat like Mumbai Thane Virar Boisar Vapi Surat Vadodara and Ahmedabad covering a distance of 508 kilometers.
As per latest reports 336 kilometers of pier foundations have been completed alongside 331 kilometers of pier construction 260 kilometers of girder casting and 225 kilometers of girder launching. Work on a 21-kilometer-long under-sea tunnel has also been started..
