Mumbai: Former Indian Prime Minister and veteran Congress leader reportedly passes away at the age of 92 on Thursday. Dr. Manmohan Singh was admitted to AIIMS after his health deteriorated at around 8 PM today. The tragic news of his demise was shared by Robert Vadra, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's husband, on his official Facebook and Instagram accounts.
However, there is no confirmation of Singh's demise by the AIIMS authorities. AIIMS has not issued any update regarding Manmohan Singh;s health. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) IT Cell Chief Amit Malviya slammed Robert Vadra for sharing the news on social media. However, Robert Vadra later deleted the post.
Robert Vadra said on Instagram, “I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Fmr Prime Minister Manmohan Singh ji... My deepest condolences for his family and loved ones. Thank you for your service to our Nation. You will always be remembered for your Economic revolution and progressive changes, you brought to the country."
Amit Malviya slammed Robert Vadra and said, "Robert Vadra has announced the death of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. There is no update from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). It is tragic that a member of the Gandhi family would rush to announce demise of a former Prime Minister and not wait for the official medical buletin. Is this what Dr Manmohan Singh gets for serving the family for decades? Dr Singh deserves respect and dignity. Shame on the Gandhis."
Veteran Congress leader Salman Khurshid also confirmed the news of passing away of Dr Manmohan Singh. He took to his official social media account and said, "Deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India. His contributions to the nation and his dedication to public service will always be remembered. My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones."
AIIMS later confirmed the news of Manmohan Singh's demise and issued a Press Release. "With profound grief, we inform the demise of the former Prime Minister of India, Dr Manmohan Singh, aged 92. He was being treated for age-related medical conditions and had a sudden loss of consciousness at home on 26 December 2024. Resuscitative measures were started immediately at home. He was brought to the Medical Emergency at AIIMS, New Delhi at 8:06 PM. Despite all efforts, he could not be revived and was declared dead at 9:51 PM. Kimalade," said AIIMS, New Delhi.
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said, "It's very tragic. He was a great prime minister who served the nation. we are cancelling all our programmes and rushing back to Delhi..."
