The signing of the Civil Nuclear Deal was one of the major accomplishments in the India-US relationship during Dr. Singh’s leadership.
According to the US Department of State, the US-India Agreement for Peaceful Nuclear Cooperation (also known as the “123 Agreement”) was the result of an extraordinary three-year effort between the US and India and was ratified by the US Congress on October 1, 2008.
In addition to helping India’s population of over a billion people satisfy its fast growing energy demands in an ecologically friendly manner while lowering the rise of carbon emissions, the deal gave the US economy trade and investment possibilities.
According to AIIMS, Manmohan Singh died on Thursday night at the age of 92 from age-related illnesses.
Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and other political figures expressed their condolences for Manmohan Singh’s passing.
Born in Punjab in 1932, Manmohan Singh led India as prime minister twice, from 2004 until 2014. He first took office after the Congress party’s triumph against the NDA, headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee, in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections. Prime Minister Narendra Modi replaced him in 2014 after he completed a second term in office from 2009 to 2014.
