A bus accident in Norway claimed three lives and critically wounded four more

December 27, Oslo In Hadsel, northern Norway, a long-distance bus went off the roadway and into a lake, killing three people and seriously injuring four more, according to local officials.

In Hadsel, close to Raftsundet, in the Lofoten archipelago, a well-known tourist destination in northern Norway, the bus carrying more than fifty people crashed while traveling from Narvik to Solvaer.

According to the Xinhua news agency, emergency personnel encountered difficult circumstances at the scene, including bad weather that made it difficult for helicopters to operate.

“Part of the bus is submerged. The Nordland Police District’s chief of staff, Bent Are Eilertsen, said that three confirmed deaths and four critical injuries had been reported. “Emergency services have evacuated everyone from the bus.”

Some wounded were transported to neighboring shelters, such as a school, while the critically injured were evacuated to a hospital.

Eight nations, including Norway, India, China, Singapore, Malaysia, the Netherlands, France, and South Sudan, are represented among the people on board, according to authorities.

Five of the approximately 20 Chinese tourists aboard the bus were minorly injured, according to confirmation from the Chinese Embassy in Norway. According to the embassy, it is keeping in touch with the travelers and will provide the assistance they need to leave safely.

In response to the fatalities, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store offered his sympathies. He told national radio NRK, “I think everyone in Norway is affected by what we are now hearing from Hadsel,” and he called on the country to support “those who are so badly affected.”

The circumstances behind the collision are being investigated; further information is pending.
