30 years ago a blockbuster film was released in theatres and is still considered one of the classics in Hindi cinema. The surprising thing about this film was that distributors were not okay to invest in it as the lead hero was not a superstar. Besides this two female stars Sridevi and Kajol rejected this film. However despite all these challenges the film became a superhit and received several accolades. We are talking about 1994-released Krantiveer. While Farida Jalal Paresh Rawal Tinu Anand and Danny Denzongpa played supporting parts. Nana Patekar for the first time played the solo lead hero in the mainstream cinema. Well distributors werent okay with it and initially wanted him to back out of the film. However when director Mehul Kumar assured them that he will bear all the expenses if the film fails at the box office the distributors were happy to associate with the film again. Made on a budget of Rs 3 crore the action drama went on to earn Rs 9.35 crore according to the entertainment tracking portal Box Office India.   According to IMDB the role of Megha Dixit played by Dimple Kapadia was first offered to Sridevi but she rejected it. Similarly the role of Mamta played by Mamta Kulkarni was also offered to Kajol but she turned down the offer. Despite all the rejections and hurdles the film faced Nana Patekars Krantiveer proved to be the third highest grossing film of the year 1994. One of the reasons why Krantiveer holds a special place in audiences hearts because of its climax scene. It because quite popular but there is a back story running behind it... In an interview with The Lallantop Nana Patekar revealed that his monologue was all impromptu. He said I just said it the whole dialogue. Now if you will ask me I will not remember a single word I blurted out that day. Krantiveer bagged three Screen Awards four Filmfare Awards and one National Film Award. The film was adapted in Telugu as Punya Bhoomi Naa Desam (1995) and Kannada as Parodi (2007). Krantiveer: The Revolution the sequel was released in 2010.
