Drivers on the M5 faced long delays after two crashes on Friday.
Motorists on the M5 in Devon were warned of 45+ minutes above normal travel times in both directions "due to the long-term roadworks".
A contraflow system was put in place between J28 Cullompton and J26 Wellington.
The works coincided with two collisions on the M5 that brought further delays.
One of the crashes occurred at J16 A38 Gloucester Road (Aztec West), leading to the M5 Southbound being partially blocked, with queueing traffic.
A second M5 crash on the Northbound took place at J20 B3133 Ettlingen Way (Clevedon), which was also partially blocked, with traffic queuing up.
The nature of the two incidents and the number of vehicles involved is not yet known.
