Ajay Singh, the president of the Boxing Federation of India (BFI), has been appointed as a board member, and the BFI will hold seven important seats in the newly established organizational structure of the interim body. Asia is the newest member of World Boxing.
In order to ensure a strong voice in policy-making and strategic direction, Indian officials would be represented on all important commissions. This includes BFI treasurer Digvijay Singh, who will serve as a member of the Finance and Audit Committee, and BFI secretary general Hemanta Kumar Kalita, who will play a significant role as a member of the Olympic Commission.
Olympic bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain will join the Commission of Athletes.
“The establishment of Asian Boxing is a major turning point for World Boxing and an important step in guaranteeing that boxing will continue to be a feature of the Olympic Games in 2028 and beyond in Los Angeles.” Being at the center of this revolutionary endeavor and actively assisting in the process of ensuring boxing’s Olympic future makes India proud.
“India is ideally positioned to influence important legislation, propel the growth of Indian boxing, and support the expansion and importance of the sport not just in the nation but also across Asia, thanks to its strong presence on important commissions.
Regarding the establishment of the temporary Asian body and the function of the BFI, Ajay Singh said, “India is playing a central role in advancing boxing’s standards and reinforcing its commitment to excellence at the global level through our efforts in partnership with World Boxing.”
As a member of the newly established Athlete Commission, Tokyo Olympic medalist Lovlina Borgohain will speak for athletes in Asian and international boxing.
It is an honor to represent India as a member of the Athletes’ Commission in Asian Boxing,” Lovlina said, highlighting the importance of the governing body and the crucial role that she and India can play. Lovlina is one of three members of the Athletes’ Commission. In order to guarantee that athletes’ opinions are heard and given priority throughout the decision-making process, this forum is essential.
“My main goal will be to promote stronger support networks, equitable training facilities, and equitable chances throughout Asia so that boxers may succeed on the international scene.
“India’s active participation in this body reinforces our commitment to fostering talent and promoting boxing as a leading sport across Asia and together, we can create a future where athletes thrive and the sport reaches new heights of excellence,” she said.
The head of the BFI disciplinary and disputes committee, D P Bhatt, will serve on the newly established sports and competition commission, while BFI vice president (North Zone), Narender Kumar Nirwan, will serve on the constitution commission. The newly established Asian body’s medical panel will include Karanjeet Singh.
This news builds on India’s previous achievements, which include winning the privilege to host the World Boxing Congress 2025 and the coveted World Boxing Cup Final 2025.
