In the last Women’s ODI here on Friday, India defeated the West Indies 3-0 with a five-wicket win thanks to senior off-spinner Deepti Sharma, who turned the tide with career-best figures of 6/31 before contributing with the bat. India recovered from a top-order stutter to achieve the mark of 163 in 28.2 overs after bowling out West Indies for 162 because of the outstanding performance of Deepti and the outstanding display of pacer Renuka Singh (4/29) with the new ball.
The output is:At 73/4, India was in trouble, but Deepti (39 not out in 48 balls) made the most of her expertise to help the team win with many overs left. When the winning runs were hit, swashbuckling wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh was undefeated at 23 from 11 balls.
Before being bowled by Afy Fletcher, captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who calmed nerves with two boundaries after previous match centurion Harleen Deol’s (1) departure left India at 23/2, blasted away to a 22-ball 32.
Before being dismissed, Kaur looked good for a big one and hit seven boundaries throughout her breezy knock. Ashmini Munisar made an odd one-handed catch after seemingly misjudging what should have been a simple catch off the bowling of Aaliyah Alleyne, forcing in-form opener Smriti Mandhana (4) to go early.
Before Deepti entered the game and bowled out the visitors cheaply, Renuka Thakur tortured the West Indies with a blazing opening performance.
Taking all ten wickets between them, Thakur and Deepti were unrelenting with the ball. While Deepti used flight and cunning to trick the West Indies batsmen, scoring her third ODI five-wicket haul and second six-wicket performance, Thakur’s precise line and length destroyed the top order.
West Indies struggled back, reaching 160 thanks to a 97-run partnership between Shemaine Campbelle (46) and Chinelle Henry (61). The visitors may have been knocked out for fewer than 100 if it weren’t for this stand. Both were aggressive against the spinners and batted really well.
As the West Indies’ batting problems persisted, only Aaliyah Alleyne (21) scored in double figures, apart from Henry and Campbelle.
West Indies chose to bat first, but their batting suffered right away as Thakur bowled both openers for ducks: Hayley Matthews, who made a century in the last game, and Qian on the first ball. The dangerous Deandra Dottin was then removed by her (5). After that, Deepti took over by weaving a web, and the show was hers. West Indies’ prospects of winning a consolation match were hampered by their frequent wicket losses, which ended their innings in the 39th over.
