New Delhi: Congress leader KC Venugopal on Saturday criticized the “poor arrangements” made at the funeral of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, calling them extremely disrespectful. He said the “appalling insult” to the former finance minister was “unacceptable” and India would “never forgive” Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Venugopal wrote on The poor arrangements at the funeral and the conduct of the government were extremely insulting and made it clear that the government was bent on belittling his stature for its own petty political reasons.” He further said that “the efforts to cut corners are there for all to see, and there are numerous instances where the family was disrespected and there was a complete lack of overall dignity and protocol befitting Dr Singh's stature.”

He said, “This outrageous insult to Dr. Manmohan Singh is unacceptable and India will never forgive the Prime Minister and his government for playing politics over Dr. Singh's funeral.” BJP national president and Union Health Minister JP Nadda came out in sharp criticism, accusing the Congress party of 'politicizing' the demise of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and doing 'cheap politics'. He alleged that the Congress party never showed respect towards late senior leader Manmohan Singh. JP Nadda said, “It is indeed very unfortunate that former Congress President Rahul Gandhi and current President Mallikarjun Kharge are not desisting from doing politics even on the tragic demise of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The Congress which gave Dr. Manmohan Singh his She was never given respect while alive, she is now doing politics in the name of his respect.” Nadda said, “This is the same Congress which tarnished the dignity of the post of Prime Minister by making Sonia Gandhi the super PM over PM Manmohan Singh.” Taking aim at the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, JP Nadda said, “Rahul Gandhi insulted PM Manmohan Singh by tearing the ordinance and today the same Rahul Gandhi is doing politics on his death.” JP Nadda also targeted the Gandhi family for not showing respect towards other prominent leaders of the country, citing examples of Dr. BR Ambedkar, Sardar Patel and others.

He said, “The Gandhi family neither respected nor did justice to any big leader of the country. Be it from the Congress party or the opposition, be it Baba Saheb Ambedkar, the country's first President Rajendra Babu, Be it Sardar Patel, Lal Bahadur Shastri, PV Narasimha Rao, Pranab da, Atal Bihari Vajpayee.” He further said, “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government has provided space for the Samadhi of PM Manmohan Singh and has also informed the family. Yet Congress is spreading false news.” Nadda said, “It is important to remember the history of Congress. After the death of former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao, there was a demand to build a mausoleum in the Rajghat complex of Delhi. But at that time Sonia Gandhi rejected it. This It was Prime Minister Narendra Modi who established a memorial for him in 2015. When former President Bharat Ratna Dr Pranab Mukherjee died in 2020, the Congress Working Committee did not even bother to call a condolence meeting. Picked up.”

Nadda said, “Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge and other leaders of the Congress party should avoid such cheap politics.” However, the Congress is being criticized for not giving such honor to former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao. The UPA government had rejected the request to build a separate memorial in the national capital citing lack of space.

Earlier today, Rahul Gandhi also attacked the Central government for performing the last rites of Manmohan Singh at Nigambodh Ghat and said the former finance minister deserves the “highest honor and memorial”. Rahul Gandhi posted on Twitter, “The present government has completely insulted Dr. Manmohan Singh, the great son of India and the first Prime Minister of the Sikh community, by cremating him at Nigambodh Ghat today.”

After the Cabinet meeting on Friday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah told Congress president Kharge and the family of late Manmohan Singh that the government will allot space for the memorial. Meanwhile, cremation and other formalities can take place as a trust has to be formed and space has to be allotted. Manmohan Singh was cremated with state honors at Nigam Bodh Ghat in North Delhi on Saturday. Manmohan Singh died on Thursday night at AIIMS, Delhi due to age- ailments at the age of 92. He suddenly fainted at home after which he was taken to the hospital. (ANI)
