UP: Dense fog grips Kanpur, weather likely to remain dry after rainfall

Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh) [India], December 29 (ANI): After heavy rainfall, the temperatures in Uttar Pradesh are plummeting as dense fog engulfs many places in the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday morning issued a warning for "dense fog" in Kanpur. The change in weather comes after heavy downpours in Uttar Pradesh with the maximum temperature forecasted to reach 22 degrees Celsius on Sunday in Kanpur while the minimum temperature will plummet to 10 degrees Celsius. According to IMD, the weather was likely to remain dry today in the meteorological divisions of Uttar Pradesh. The IMD predicted that there was a possibility of dense fog with surface visibility from 50 meters to less than 199 meters at isolated places. The weather is likely to remain dry on December 30 and 31 as well, IMD added, while issuing a warning for dense fog for tomorrow. The temperatures are expected to plunge to nine degrees Celsius. The people of Kanpur have been struggling with the cold as they seek protection through bonfire. "There is fog and the cold still persists. I work as a (security) guard and we have to work in the night," Rama Dixit told ANI. "There is too much cold. Labourers live here and they are suffering because of the cold. We have no arrangements (to protect from cold). Everyone is surviving by burning garbage," Shera told ANI. The weather in Lucknow will remain cloudy with the possibility of rain in some areas, IMD said, adding that the maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 24 degrees Celsius and 12 degrees Celsius. In Bareilly, the maximum temperature on Sunday will reach 21 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature has been predicted to plummet to 10 degrees Celsius. The dense fog is expected to grip the city on December 30. Over 24 hours, light to moderate rainfall was witnessed in western Uttar Pradesh and very light rainfall in eastern UP. According to an IMD report issued by Meteorological Centre Lucknow, shallow to moderate fog was recorded at isolated places while dense fog remained at a few places in eastern UP. (ANI)
