A hero winning over a villain is a storyline that has been running since forever now. Whether its in films or books a hero fighting with 1 or 2 villains and winning over them is something that usually audience go crazy about. Today we will discuss about one such high-octane action film that created ruckus when released on big-screens. It became one of Indias biggest actions films with makers earning profits after its success. Moreover the lead hero became the undisputed action hero of Bollywood. The film we are talking about is Ghatak. Released in 1996 the film was directed by Rajkumar Santoshi with Sunny Deol portraying as a lead hero. The audience was enthralled by the story especially 7 villains who played a significant part. Sunny played the character of Kashinath a kindhearted wrestler from Banaras. While Danny Denzongpa portrayed the dreaded villain Katya in the film. The role of his 6 brothers were played by actors Mukesh Rishi Deep Dhillon Tinu Verma Brij Gopal Mukhtar Khan among others. Interestingly Sunny Deol wasnt the first choice for the film. Rajkumar Santoshi approached South superstar Kamal Haasan and the actor agreed to do the film. Later he backed out due to various reasons and eventually the role landed in Sunnys kitty.   Ghatak took the box office by storm upon its release. Made on a budget of Rs 6.2 crore the film earned Rs 32 crore earning five times its budget. Although it was a success but the film saw a delay in its production. It took five years to make because director Rajkumar Santoshi was busy with Andaz Apna Apna and Barsaat. In between Raveena Tandon who was finalised as the lead actress left the shooting after 10 days. Later she was replaced by Meenakshi Seshadri. The film also starred Amrish Puri who portrayed Sunny Deols father. From script to the songs the audience was hooked to the film and naturally Sunny Deol won the hearts of millions with his stellar performance. His acting also won him praise from critics and awards of Best Actor.
