In the middle of this year, the Government of India launched a free Aadhaar update campaign for citizens, aimed at making all people aware to keep their Aadhaar updated with the latest information. Initially, the deadline for this was set as September 14, which was later extended to December 14. Now, the government has extended the deadline by a few more months. The Government of India advises its citizens to update their Aadhaar card every 10 years.
Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identification number that is used for many purposes such as filing income tax, taking admission to school/college travel, etc. Updating it regularly provides validity and accuracy of information, which is necessary to access government services and prevent fraud. This is the reason why the government is providing this service to its citizens for free.
Usually, UIDAI charges a small fee for updating Aadhaar. However, if you update your details by June 14, 2025, you will not be charged any fee.
Let us tell you that free Aadhaar update service can be availed only through the online portal. If you update your demographic details from an offline center, you will have to pay the fee prescribed by UIDAI. Demographic data includes name, address, date of birth, and mobile number. If you want to update biometric data, such as fingerprints, iris scans, or photos, you will have to visit the authorized Aadhaar center. For this, a nominal fee will be charged to you.
Below we are telling the way to update Aadhaar online;-
First of all, you have to go to the official website of UIDAI (https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/).
After that log in using 12 digit Aadhaar number.
Now a one-time password (OTP) will be sent to your registered mobile number, which has to be entered.
Now you have to review the existing identity and address information in your profile.
If an update is required, select the required document type from the drop-down menu.
Here you have to upload the scanned copy of the valid document in jpg, png, or pdf format (less than 2 MB).
Now submit your update request.
