Onions will stay fresh for 'six months' when stored in an unexpected area of your home

In his informative video on , Jerry James Stone revealed the best to make onions last for up to "six months".

The versatile vegetable, which is the base for many , should not be stored in the refrigerator, as it "will get mushy and rot really quickly."

Mr Stone added that onions shouldn't be stored in the pantry, either, unless there is "good ventilation." He explained that " prefer dry, cool [storage spaces] that have good ventilation."

This is why will not stay fresh in closed drawers or a pantry with little air circulation.

Plus, must not be stored next to because their close proximity will cause spuds to sprout.

Instead, onions re best stored "next to garlic", Mr Stone affirmed. This is because garlic and onions stay fresh in the same environment - cool, dry and well ventilated.

If you store onions in this way, next to garlic, Mr Stone promised the onions "can last up to six months".
